What Is Belotero?
Belotero is an injectable dermal filler made with a hyaluronic acid (HA) matrix. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in your skin, where it binds to water to keep skin plump, hydrated, and smooth. When injected, Belotero’s soft, gel-like consistency binds to the skin’s moisture to subtly fill in fine lines and wrinkles, creating a smoother, more youthful look. Over time, your body naturally absorbs the hyaluronic acid in Belotero.
Belotero was first approved by the FDA in 2011 to treat moderate to severe nasolabial folds (laugh lines). Today, the product line includes specialized formulas for different areas and concerns. For example,Belotero Soft is ideal for smoothing fine lines, whileBelotero Volume restores lost volume in the cheeks, nose, and lips.
Is Belotero Safe?
Belotero is generally safe for most adults. However, its safety has not been established for people under 18 or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should avoid Belotero if you have a history of severe or multiple allergies, especially to Gram-positive bacterial proteins.
Before your treatment, your provider will review your medical history. Be sure to tell them about any allergies or medications you’re taking.
What to Expect During Treatment
Your provider may mark the treatment areas with a skin-safe marker and clean the skin with a sanitizing solution. Belotero is then injected with a fine-gauge needle, and your provider may gently massage the area to ensure an even, natural-looking result.
The entire procedure typically takes15 minutes to an hour, depending on the number of areas treated.
